How Body Language Affects Negotiation

Body language is the unspoken and non-verbal mode of communication. We communicate through smiles, frowns, grimaces, eye contact, poise, and gestures. The value of body language is just as important in business negotiations.

We can connect to people by establishing a sense of rapport by matching body language patterns. By mimicking others, it can create a more comfortable environment for communication. During business negotiations it is important to be aware of your body language so you don’t unknowingly send the wrong signals. By reading and understanding the other person’s signals, you could successfully diffuse stalemates in business negotiations. If you notice tension building by the way they are sitting and avoiding eye contact, initiate a shift in movement to diffuse the tension.

To be a winning negotiator, deploy these techniques in any situation!
